Awareness

Shining Light in Dark Places

Lauren’s Kids raises awareness about prevention of and healing from child sexual abuse through public awareness campaigns and speaking engagements around the country and the world, including the Hague, Netherlands, South Africa and throughout the Caribbean. Founder Lauren Book shares her own story of abuse, survival and advocacy to show others that it’s not only OK to Tell – the title of Lauren’s memoir – but that it’s OK to heal. Lauren’s first book for children, Lauren’s Kingdom, promotes discussion about personal safety among caregivers and children.

Lauren’s Kids provides more than 9-10 million educational and awareness materials statewide through direct mail every year, and successfully partnered with the Florida Department of Children and Families to roll out the “Don’t Miss the Signs” campaign, educating adults on the signs of abuse and their responsibility to report; the award-winning awareness campaign has been replicated throughout the country. Our most notable awareness campaign is the annual 1,500-mile “Walk in My Shoes” advocacy and awareness walk, which takes us from the Southernmost Point of the U.S. in Key West – coast to coast, community to community, all the way up to the steps of the Historic State Capitol in Tallahassee.
