Governor Scott Grants $2.5 Million to Rape Crisis Programs

As an adult survivor of child sexual abuse and an advocate for survivors across the state, I thank Governor Scott for allocating much-needed funds to Florida’s rape crisis programs. I know firsthand how painful and overwhelming the healing process can be. The flashbacks, self-doubt, guilt and shame cannot be overcome without professional guidance and support, which I received through the Nancy J. Cotterman Sexual Assault Treatment Center in Broward County. Over the past year and a half, we’ve seen child sexual abuse become a topic of national discussion, opening the door for men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds to break their silence and come forward as survivors for the first time. Thanks to Governor Rick Scott’s $2.5 million allocation, our rape crisis centers will be better equipped to provide vital services to Floridians who have been victimized by sexual violence.
