For the more than 42 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse in the United States — like me — April has special meaning. It’s dedicated to raising awareness about sexual assault, and particularly child sexual abuse, in which one-third of the victims are under the age of 12.
And it’s a time to recognize the extraordinary work of the Florida Network of 55 Children’s Advocacy Centers, such as the Nancy J. Cotterman Center in Broward County and Kristi House in Miami-Dade County, where our youngest victims of abuse get life-saving help in a safe, trauma-informed environment.
