Walk in My Shoes Day 1: Key West, Monroe County

At 7:15 this morning with more than 100 Key West locals in tow, Lauren Book and the Walk road crew took the first few steps of our fifth annual 1,500-mile “Walk in My Shoes” walk across the state! Locals of all ages joined us this morning at the Southernmost Point of the U.S. for day one of our “Walk in My Shoes” journey from Key West to Tallahassee, and we had wonderful support throughout the city: local schools posted signs in support as our group walked along the streets of Key West, participants signed the Lauren’s Kids wrapped cars (thank you to our family at MetroWrapz!) and cooled down at the BB&T water stop, and Publix hosted an awesome rally with walkers and Publix employees and even donated lunch for all walkers! Lauren introduced this year’s theme – #WhyIWalk — and shared how far we’ve come since the first statewide “Walk in My Shoes” in 2010. We spent the rest of the day clocking miles as we marched on to Summerland Key to end the first official day of the 2014 Walk. This was truly our biggest and best kick-off yet!
