Walk in My Shoes Day 2: Monroe County

It’s the end of day two and while we are waving goodbye to the Florida Keys, we will carry forward all of the meaningful stories told and conversations had as we march on to Miami-Dade. We hit the pavement bright and early this morning from Pigeon Key, watching the sun rise over the ocean as we walked. The energy was high as we worked our way to Marathon Key and our BB&T water stop, where we were greeted with water, chapstick and backpacks to carry our Walk gear. We were glad to have featured walker Daliana Goins with us as the group continued on to the Marathon City Hall Rally, where we were joined by Marathon city officials, including Mayor Dick Ramsay and City Manager Mike Puto. Mayor Ramsay spoke to the crowd, sharing that Marathon is a safer place because of Safer, Smarter Kids and advocates like Lauren. We finished the day strong, with Chase and Brian running the last mile into Long Key State Park, giving Lauren’s blistered feet a rest.

Goodbye Florida Keys, Hello Miami!
