Walk in My Shoes Day 3: From Healing to Prevention

Lauren’s Kids has reached the Florida mainland! Today was a big and busy day for Lauren’s Kids, from healing to prevention. First stop: Homestead Correctional Institution to talk with the women of LEAP — Ladies Empowerment Action Program. Lauren shared her story of victimization, survivorship and empowerment with the women, who are working to hit the reset button on their lives and become entrepreneurs when they leave Homestead C.I. Then, it was off to Laura C. Saunders Elementary School. Lauren taught a lesson from our Safer, Smarter Kids curriculum to a kindergarten class, going over important safety skills like using your “I mean business” voice to stand up for yourself and others in unsafe situations. Lauren also visited Irving and Beatrice Pescoe K-8 Center, where local 3rd graders joined in our 1,500-mile walk across the state by walking a few laps around the school with their teal LK bands and Safety Stop Signs! It was a great day filled with sharing our message – remember, “It’s OK to Tell!”
